In the past, free-from foods had a  bit of a reputation for being bland and tasteless – but we are delighted to have been part of the revolution that changed this, making our cakes and sweet treats every bit as delicious as ‘regular’ cakes. We believe that everyone should be able to enjoy delicious baked goods, no matter their dietary restrictions.

That's why we carefully select each ingredient that goes into our free-from cakes, ensuring they not only meet our strict allergen standards but also taste amazing.

Where the Magic Happens: Our Free-From Bakery

To maintain strict allergen control, we built a bespoke free-from bakery that is completely wheat, gluten, dairy and nut-free. This dedicated space allows us to create our delicious cakes without any risk of cross-contamination – giving you peace of mind with every bite, crunch and nibble.

Please note: our bakery is not free from soya.

We operate controlled rolling allergen testing procedures to ensure our ingredients and finished products meet our free-from promise and commitment to you.

But it's not only the place where we bake our cakes that makes them special – it's also the people who make them. Our team of expert bakers have years of experience in creating mouth-watering treats, and each one is passionate about what they do.

Our recipes and techniques have been developed and perfected by our two founders – Dr Sally Beattie and Emer Bustard – who have a personal connection to food allergies and intolerances, making them the perfect pair to lead the Lazy Day revolution.

In fact, we were awarded the Food & Drink Business Award at the Lanarkshire Business Excellence Awards 2023 – a real testament to our dedication and passion for creating delicious free-from sweet treats!

As if our bespoke bakery and expert team weren't enough, we also hold BRC Grade AA+ Accreditation for Quality Standards – meaning we meet the highest food safety, quality and legality standards. What Ingredients Go into Our Free-From Cakes?

Now, let's talk about the tasty stuff. We specially select each and every ingredient that goes into our cakes – from the finest dairy-free Belgian chocolate to fine gluten-free flour. Each ingredient has its own unique role in creating our signature taste and texture, which is why we take great care in choosing only the best.

As part of our commitment to inclusivity, we also make sure to use natural and plant-based ingredients so that our cakes and sweet treats are suitable for vegans, too.

Free-From Ingredients

All of our free-from cakes and sweet treats are:

  • <20ppm for gluten

  • <5ppm for whole milk

  • <5ppm for egg

In simplified terms, that means our food contains less than 20 parts of gluten per million - in line with the UK's law on gluten-free food. This is the same for milk and egg, making our products safe for those with specific allergies or intolerances.

From 2012, manufacturers have had to comply to a single threshold standard that is regulated by law, which means that a ‘gluten free’ label can only be used on products which meet the terms of this law.

This law means that you can be sure that any product labelled ‘gluten free’ contains 20 parts per million of or less of gluten, which is a safe level for all people following a gluten free diet

RSPO Sustainably Sourced Palm Oil

As well as being free from wheat, gluten, dairy and nuts, our cakes are also made using RSPO-certified sustainable palm oil. This means that the palm oil used in our cakes is sourced from sustainable and socially responsible suppliers, helping to protect the environment and support local communities.

We know that many of our customers are concerned about the impact of palm oil on the environment and wildlife, which is why we're committed to using only sustainable palm oil sources in our products.

Our cakes are also free from hydrogenated fats – another common ingredient found in baked goods that can have negative effects on our health and the environment – and are non-GMO (genetically modified organisms).

Quality Ingredients for an Award-Winning Taste

We go above and beyond to make sure our cakes and sweet treats are not only free from allergens but also full of delicious flavour. That's why we carefully choose each ingredient to ensure the highest quality and taste in every bite.

For example, the chocolate we use in many of our cakes and treats, like our award-winning Celebration Chocolate Cake and party-favourite Chocolate Cornflake Clusters, is real dark Belgian chocolate, free from dairy and added sugars. This gives our products a rich, indulgent taste that's second to none.

Our flours are carefully chosen from mills that ensure a gluten-free status, and we even use pure vanilla extracts, real orange oils and other natural flavourings to give our cakes and treats that extra special Lazy Day stamp.

In fact, our cakes are so good that non-allergic customers often can't tell the difference between our free-from treats and 'regular' baked goods!
